Freemium, done kindly: what we gate and what we never will
A pricing page is a values statement. Here's the line we drew, and the reasoning behind it.
Verso is free for individuals, and not in a trial-that-expires way. If you write alone, you can use the whole editor forever without paying us a cent. We gate on collaboration scale and power, never on the act of writing.
The rule we hold ourselves to
Never gate the top of the funnel. Making pages, formatting them, nesting them, building a simple database — that's the writing itself, and charging for it would be charging you to think. So we don't. What costs money is the team stuff: unlimited collaborators, longer version history, granular permissions, the analytics that slice what your team has built.
Put crudely: you should be able to put everything into Verso for free, and pay only when you want to slice it with other people. Data in is free. Scale and control cost money.
Why this is also good business
The free individual becomes the internal champion. They bring Verso to a team because they already trust it, and the team is where seats — and the bill — begin. It only works if the free tier is genuinely, indefinitely good. A crippled free tier makes no champions. So the kind thing and the smart thing are, for once, the same thing.
You'll see this shape on our pricing page: a real Free plan, a Plus plan that unlocks the team, and higher tiers for permissions and administration. The demo checkout is in reference mode — no card is charged — so you can see exactly how an upgrade would feel.
